When Jack first arrived at the Cameron Pound, he looked old and sad. Sandra gave him a comfortable bed, and he was curled up on it.

The next time I saw Jack, he was up and about, looking around, his tail was wagging, and his eyes were bright and happy, and he was smiling. I could hardly believe he was the same sad, confused dog I’d seen a few days before. Sandra was working to get his coat in shape, and he sat happily for me to brush him. You can see below that Jack is happiest when he can interact with someone. We suspect he may have been a service dog whose owner had passed. Jack has earned retirement but will be best in a home where his people know what is required with a large dog.

Jack waits patiently for his turn for attention, and he relishes it when he gets it. Jack has spent the month of August at the Pound, and he’s more than ready for his forever home.  He’d like nothing more than to be a couch potato with you with the occasional walk thrown in. If you think Jack might be a good fit for you, please come visit him.  While he’s very friendly when you know him, Michael says if he hasn’t met you yet he can be protective of his territory, so nobody is going to sneak up on you in your home while Jack’s around.

UPDATE: Jack visited Dr. Amy this morning so he could be up to date on shots for the Belton Adoption Expo.  He is heartworm negative (great news), and Dr. Amy estimates him to be at about three years of age.  He does have a pretty bad yeast infection, and we got treatment for that.  He is current on Rabies, Distemper/Parvo Combo, Bordetella, and deworming.  Oh, and he’s 81 pounds in overall healthy condition.

UPDATE: Jack was adopted last week! Thank you, folks.
