Hi everyone! Sorry we’ve been missing for a while. Our main blogger has been dealing with some health challenges, and the backup was out of town. But we DO have some good news for you!

We got some construction rubble moved to make room for a new dog run at the Cameron Touch of Love facility.

Thanks to a generous donation from Hearts, Homes and Hands, we will soon have a place for our pound puppies to run, play, and get some exercise safely. It will also be a great place for prospective owners to get to know our pups.

How did this happen?

A prospective adopter came by to look for a companion for his elderly father to take on walks and hang out with. However, all the dogs were so excited that he got worried they’d be hard on his dad. He thought that if the dogs had a chance to get some of their energy out, it might be easier to assess their personalities, but there was no space for the dogs to run around.

Lee Bruns of Hearts, Homes and Hands gives Meghan Land of MTOL the money for the new dog run, as Sandra Ritch and friendly animals look on with approval.

So, he had a talk with the people at Hearts, Homes and Hands (who happen to be his family), and he said he’d build the Milam Touch of Love facility a dog run if the business would donate the funds. Of course, they said yes!

A Couple of Obstacles

Of course, you just don’t go DO that on City of Cameron property, so the members of MTOL talked to city staff, and our Animal Control Officer had numerous meetings to get permission to use the space where she wants to put the dog run.

In the end, all permissions were obtained, and we at MTOL and Hearts, Homes and Hands are so grateful to the City of Cameron and the Water Department for giving us permission.

Ready to Roll!

The first step to getting the dog run is getting the funding. Lee Bruns of Hearts, Homes and Hands presented a check to cover the materials to Meghan Land of MTOL today. That will be used to get the materials for a run with a double entrance (so no dogs can escape).

Next weekend the run will get built! All the labor will be donated by Hearts, Homes and Hands and other volunteers. Let us know if you want to help out!
