What’s happening with Milam Touch of Love in early 2026? We do have some exciting things going on.
In January, we are adding a modified live FVRCP vaccine to our TNRs, Barn Cats, and Porch Cats. Most FVRCP vaccines require a three to four-shot series to be effective; however, a single vaccine of the modified live virus provides some protection for cats who aren’t available for follow-up vaccines. We believe this will offer limited protection for our community cat colonies throughout the county. We anticipate this will add $6 to barn cat and porch cat prices. For the Snip and Chip pet animal event, these vaccines are already available to pet cats when owners sign their pet up for spaying and neutering and during the monthly Wellness event.
In February, we will have a 100-cat Barn Cat day. We’re working out the details. For this event, the Milam County Grant will be suspended; however, we plan on offering special pricing. Registration will begin a little earlier, so we’ll update the schedule as soon as we determine the plan.
In early March, we are planning a BBQ fundraiser — beef or pork sandwich, chips, and a drink for $15. The location is to be determined, but we plan for it to be a drive-through event.
Finally, it’s time to offer an update on the City of Cameron Shelter. As most of you know, we partner with Sandra (Cameron’s ACO) to ensure the city dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and on heartworm prevention before adoption. We tracked costs this year, and since Cameron experienced quite a few more intakes than usual, they used $16,000 to accomplish this. As of December 5, 100 dogs have been spayed or neutered through the shelter program for an average cost of $160 per animal to medically prepare them for adoption (this does not include food, Sandra’s salary, water, electricity, or building maintenance — the city covers all but food for the dogs, and food is donated from generous donors). Thankfully, we had one major donor who covered most of that expense, and numerous minor donors who made up the rest. Thank you, all for doing what the city can’t or won’t do for the dogs. Sandra truly couldn’t do it without you — and neither could we.
Please remember we have artwork for sale in the 502 N Crockett Ave location. You are welcome to view our inventory whenever we have an event in the building or by appointment. For the current offerings, 100% of the proceeds are being donated to Milam Touch of Love. We have a variety of lovely paintings and prints.
