Hi there, friends of MTOL! It’s getting hot, so make sure your pets have shelter, water, and shade this time of year. Off soapbox now…

I’m one of the founders of this organization, but I’m also a happy adopter of pets from the Cameron Touch of Love pound (I’ve had Carlton since February of last year). Since I care a LOT about the animals of Milam County, I am happy to report that I think I’ve found a way to both find a new canine friend and raise funds for our organization.

Raise Funds?

Yes, did you know that we are now officially accepted by GuideStar, which means you can do Facebook fundraisers for MTOL? You can, and I did!

I’m Izzy or Penny. I’m part pug/dachshund and part ??

You see, my husband and I were feeling lonely after the loss of our blue heeler. I’d been saying no to an additional dog, repeatedly, but I finally caved and suggested we head out to the pound to see the female dogs (encouraged by Sandra, our Animal Control Officer and Chief Pet Enabler).

We took a look at the only available female, who I’d seen many times on the Milam Touch of Love Facebook page. Izzy was just a dog. Not big, not small, not fancy, just a friendly red dog. She hadn’t been adopted yet, since she wasn’t striking or a standout. But she sure was friendly! And I know she’d been through a lot already and missed her mom and the other dog she’d grown up with.

I like this man. I think I’ll keep him.

So, after she climbed in my husband’s lap and wouldn’t get down, we took her on a “test drive” to see if she’d get along with the rest of our pack, which includes three dogs dumped on the roadside and one pound veteran.

Yay, it seems to be working. We even renamed her Penney, because she is bright as copper. Check out her running and playing on my ranch blog!

Wow, those are big dogs!

So, I posted some pictures on Facebook, and when promoted to raise funds, I put on a thing asking for donations to MTOL. And I am happy to report we have already raised $38. That covers some flea treatments and baths for pound residents!

You Can Do It!

So, if you visit the pound, rescue a dog, are helped in any way by our group, or just want to help out, feel free to add a donation button to your own Facebook post (search for Milam Touch of Love). We will soon be able to direct funds to MTOL through Amazon Smile. We’ll let you know when that’s set up!
